In order to determine why we study societies, we must ask ourselves what a society is? A society is generally known as a group of people who share a common culture or live in the same area or institution. A society could also refer to the economic, social standings a person may have. The members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. It may be a particular ethic group or a broader cultural group.
There are many reasons for why we study how a society functions, the most common reason is for research on how the society has adapt to the issues and problem they faced years ago. By researching how society has adapted we are able to confront and solve the problems we face today. When we study how a society functions, we are able to learn about the mistakes we have made in the past and the mistakes we are making now and how these mistakes will impact our future.
In the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” Al Gore’s crusade to knowledge people of the upcoming problems we are causing in regards to global warming. Over the past decade we have been causing so much harm to the environment; the average person generates about 15,000 pounds of carbon dioxide every year from personal products and services. With this knowledge we need to learn to change the situation so that we do not affect the planet in such a way that in years to come, the world as we know it will be different. Some of the changes we have made to prevent this from happening have been increasing the use of hybrids and eco-friendly materials such as solar energy and hydro energy. If the population works together to bring the toxins in the air to a sensible amount then we may just fix the problem.
The article “A Tale of Two Farms” written by Jared Diamond studies how societies are intertwined and can affect each other. This is important to study because we figure out why this is happening and try to solve the problem. If the problem is not solved, eventually both societies could die and possibly wipe out the world as we know it. In order to prevent this, we must learn to study and prevent these obstructions.
In conclusion, I think it is of profound importance that we study how society functions, it is crucial to do this at the time to learn from our mistakes. In order to preserve the future we will need to know how society functions, what we can do to prevent any further problems from happening and to fix any problems we have already created or were created in the past. If we do not prevent or fix any of the problems that are affecting the world today, there may not be any world to study from in the future.
